The State Emergency Service says water levels around Tuggerah Lakes on the New South Wales Central Coast are holding steady at the moment but it remains on standby for possible flooding this afternoon.

The Wyong SES has has received more than 200 calls for help so far during this week’s wild weather, and extra crews from Sydney have been called in to help with the backlog.

The only road closure is part of Yarramalong Road.

SES Controller Gary Whittaker says the situation is being closely monitored, with heavy rain predicted this afternoon.

“The areas that we are concerned about are those around the Tuggerah Lakes, Chittaway Point, Buff Point. Some of those properties already have water across the roads and into front yards of properties so we still need a fair bit of water to raise that level but we need to be ready in case that’s what’s coming this afternoon,” he said.

Meanwhile, Newcastle University’s Ourimbah campus is closed today due to localised weekend flooding, and predictions of more severe weather over the next 12 hours.

University exams scheduled for today and tomorrow have been postponed until next month.

A decision about whether the campus will re-open tomorrow will be made later today.
